Driving from Durban to Ballito is one of KZN’s classic weekend moves — north on the N2 corridor past Umhlanga and toward the Dolphin Coast. Typical times range from roughly 35–55 minutes depending on your Durban start point, traffic, and whether it is peak Friday afternoon.
Route snapshot
Most drivers use the N2 north. Umhlanga sits in between as a possible coffee or shopping stop, but if Ballito beaches are the goal, continuing through is usually cleaner. Watch for holiday congestion near mall off-ramps.
Once you arrive
- Town beach day → head toward Willard / promenade
- Estate check-in → follow host pin for Zimbali or Simbithi gates
- Village beach → continue toward Salt Rock
Coming from elsewhere in SA
Fly into King Shaka when possible — see the parent getting to Ballito hub. Johannesburg–DUR flights plus a short transfer beat long intercity drives for most holidaymakers.
